Margarete Talbert-Irving, Ed.D., Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction

Margarete Talbert-Irving joined Marion County Public Schools in July 2021 as the Chief Academic Officer and, in the 2022-2023 school year, transitioned to the Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. In this capacity, she oversees everything academic, including:

Dr. Talbert-Irving was an elementary educator in Pinellas and Palm Beach Counties before moving to Orlando. There, she served as principal at three elementary schools, including one where she was named "Principal of the Year" in 2016. As principal and the learning leader, she implemented opportunities for schools and communities to work together for student success. Emphasizing data-driven decisions and capitalizing on technology, Dr. Talbert-Irving increased and maintained high-achieving scores and "A" school grades multiple years in a row. She was recognized by Florida Tax Watch and Florida's Department of Education as one of three most effective principals in high-risk K-12 public schools.

A native Floridian, Dr. Talbert-Irving also served as administrative dean, assistant principal, master principal, and executive area director before joining MCPS. 

Dr. Talbert-Irving holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from National Louis University.

She participated in trainings at Harvard's Graduate School of Education for Parental Engagement and Family Involvement, the University of Florida, and the University of Central Florida. She also serves as an adjunct professor at National Louis University.   

Dr.Talbert-Irving is the mother of three children and enjoys reading and playing the guitar in her spare time.
