ESOL: English for Speakers of Other Languages

The ESOL Department's Mission:

To expedite the English language acquisition of our ESOL Program students so that they function to the best of their ability and to the highest of their potential without the assistance of our Program. Ultimately, the mission of the ESOL Department is to prepare and develop successful bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural citizens in an increasingly multicultural society, meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

The Marion County Public Schools’ Teachers and ESOL Paraprofessionals work with English Language Learner (ELL) students through an educational program, developing English language proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

The ESOL Program provides teachers who are assigned ELL students training that addresses appropriate strategies for increasing English language development as well as the understanding of content. This ensures that all ELL students can academically achieve English language skills and the educational goals of the Marion County Public Schools.

Welcome to ESOL!

We would like to extend to our students, their families, and all staff members our sincerest wishes for a highly successful and productive school year.

The ESOL Department is busy conducting staffings; designing and implementing professional development for teachers and ESOL paraprofessionals; performing data entry and analysis; providing teachers online training information; providing curricular support; updating documents, resources, websites; and much, much more!

We would like to encourage the parents and guardians of our English Language Learners (ELLs) to share in our enthusiasm by participating in the activities that will take place in their child's school during the year.
